Happily Ever After 367 Days Later

On Monday, we celebrated our first official anniversary. 

It was a big deal for two reasons:

1. It was our first anniversary as husband and wife.
2. It was our first "official" anniversary as a couple.

Can you believe we never had an official start date? (I will tell my someday daughters to get it in writing.) For the last eight years, I have just convinced him to like me a little more during the month we started dating. And/or my best friend would nicely remind us every county fair of our first "date" in the beef tent.

I found out that I clearly have been missing out. My husband is good at anniversaries. I am glad we officially have one on the calendar for rest of our lives. :)

Monday was low-key, but perfect. It involved a breakfast date before work, Italian takeout for supper, a bottle of French wine that I saved for our wedding night that someone forgot to bring to the wedding, homemade apple crisp, wedding pictures, year-old cow cookies, Gossip Girl and a really terrible movie to watch on your anniversary. Thanks to"What To Expect When You're Expecting," we now have no plans to expect anything any time soon.

And by the way, I just realized I NEVER posted about my wedding. I will have to work on that, but until then, here are some of my favorite photos. By the way, my photos were done by Jeff Loves Jessica -- an amazing husband/wife photography duo.

High Five For Friday!

It's Friday, Friday, Friday!

I don't know about you, but my week flew by, which I love.

Once again, I am linking up with Lauren at From My Grey Desk for her High-Five For Friday! Hopefully, you're celebrating your week today, too!

High-Five Numero Uno goes to the sunlight that is now streaming into my office every morning! Yep, I upgraded and got a cubicle with a window! It has its downfalls – like the that printer brings people and unwanted noise constantly into my little space; but I will take the sunlight everyday of the week. I might even get a plant now!? How exciting. :)

My second High Five goes to finally getting our bank accounts figured out and finalized...it only took 6 months. So nice to have loans paid off and have goals nearly set for our future.

And this leads nicely into my third High Five -- Marko & I are celebrating 6 months of marriage bliss tomorrow! It's amazing how much things have changed in that time and I love the people we have become.  Don't get me wrong, I still want to punch him some days, but he's also my best friend. We're celebrating tomorrow with garage sales, some wine and a fabulous little girl's birthday party!

We also got a nice surprise this week and got our wedding book in the mail! Perfect timing, right? I have raved about our photographers before, but really, I can't say it enough. They. are. fabulous. And Jessica (half of the great duo) is the cutest darn thing – it was better than Christmas morning and her wrapping was perfect!

November 5th | The Recap

Has it really already been three months?

Next Sunday will be our 3 month wedding anniversary and that's probably a good as reason as ever to share my favorite pictures from November 5th.

Another 101 in 1001 Update

Was it really almost a year ago that I made my 101 in 1001 goals? That means I have a little over two years left and a lot to accomplish. However, I have got a lot of things to cross off my list...starting with the big numero uno.

1. Get married. (You have to start with something easy.) | Check!

I was so nervous we wouldn't fit everyone in my little church. God must have heard my prayers, because we did!

We couldn't have asked for a better day and in the 2+ months since the wedding, we've had a fun time getting to know each other even better. You think you can know a guy after six year, but I promise living together is an adventure all itself. Most days I love it. :)

4. Go see a musical/play. | Jersey Boys in May

5. Go to a comedy club. | Just this Friday, we went with six of our friends to Dave Mordal at Gopher Hills and we loved him. Definitely doing this again!

12. Own my own heifer. | This is a blog post in itself and will be someday. But for the sake of crossing it off the list, yes, I own my own heifer. I like to call her Star...everyone else calls her Scarface. I am well on my way to accomplishing #20.

 14. Coach a 4-Her to the top 10 in state judging. | In August, our kids were the Minnesota Champion Junior 4-H Livestock Judging Team and not only did we an individual in the Top 10, we got one to the very top. We were so proud of our team for sweeping all three species and reasons and now we have a lot to live up to for the next 5 years (they were all only 6th graders!). And Matty Matt was 6th in the Senior contest, so we can successfully cross that one of the list!

28. Drink 4 glasses of water/day for 20 days straight. | Leading up to the wedding, I might have been drinking 12 glasses a day. Once I stopped worrying about bloating, breaking out from stress or gaining too much weight to fit into my dress...I knocked it down to 4 or so a day. Good thing my office is close to the lunch room!

34. Buy a car that I trust in the winter.|My trusty Altima has played a few tricks on me so far this winter, but nothing serious. So far, she is a keeper.

38. Own my own sewing machine.| Thanks to my dear aunt Kate who was SICK of "helping" me with sewing projects, I am now a sewing machine owner and I officially made my own pillows.  I don't know who's happier -- me or Ann May. I think she was getting sick of my craft nights with Alyssa. :)

What I Am Loving Right Now

Life is good folks. Really good. 

It took me 23 years to figure it out, but I feel like I have finally hit my prime. I am sure it is one of those things that come and go, but for now, there is a lot of things that are making me love life. I present them to you in no particular order and in completely random thoughts.  

• Nail Polish. I owe my BFF Alyssa for this new obsession. I think before this summer I owned one color of polish and it might have been clear. Now, I own a trillion. I am currently sporting gray, but I also love deep purple. I have yet to fork over more than $4 for my bottles, but I have feeling that might come soon. Do you know how much more put together you feel when your nails are painted?

• My Fiance. For real, he's fantastic. He drives me nuts usually once a day, but he also keeps me sane and makes me laugh, so it balances out in my opinion. Plus, he got his haircut and has taking a liking to this new shirt I bought him, so he's been looking sharp lately. Basically, he's a catch.

• Caribou's Pumpkin White Chocolate Mocha. It's delicious. Try it. Don't think about the calories (but at least get it skim!) and just enjoy it. It's really one of those simple pleasures. I fully intend on buying one tomorrow on the way to work just to help me get to the weekend.

• Chief. Thanks to a new car purchase, I have a CD player and my first ever CD! I started with what might be the best CD out there -- Eric Church's Chief. I don't know why he doesn't make every one of those songs a single they are that good. Personal favorite? Springstein.

• My Bridesmaids. This wedding planning has been a marathon and they are currently being my personal cheerleaders at mile 22. Alyssa Bigelow unfortunately got a job (so proud of her!) and she can't be my everyday wedding planner, but I owe her mucho. And with two big bachelorette parties in a row, I get to spend lots of time with them. God blessed me with some fantastic people in my life.

• Blazers. Specifically, my old judging blazers that came out of the closet and became my best friends. Did you EVER think a blue corduroy jacket would be cool again? Pair it with some flats, skinnies, a scarf and voila, you are good to go. And that khaki jacket I bought because B. Williams convinced me navy blue wasn't cool in college is now a go-to fall jacket. Give me some perfectly painted nails and a blazer and I feel like I could conquer the world.

• My Parent's Present. I can't tell you details, but I PROMISE I will after the wedding. Until then, I am just going to be really proud of Mark and I. It's so fantastic, I don't want to give it away.

• Blogging. It feels good to be a little sarcastic and a little vulnerable again.

And what I am not liking right now? Verizon Wireless, the fact that I never wake up to my alarm clock. and that I haven't seen my niece or nephew in a week. However, these all can be cured with a Pumpkin White Chocolate Mocha tomorrow morning.

Why Hello Strangers

No, I didn't completely forget how to blog, I just took a slight hiatus.

Truth of the matter is, I check blogspot.com every day to get my daily reading of Crystal.Cattle, A. Liz Adventures and Craftaholics Anonymous. I just never actually blog.

Basically, I fell off the blogging boat. But, I am jumping back on folks, I promise.

I know what you're saying, "We've all heard that before, Jamie." And you have and you will again. But for now, please accept my begging and pleading for your forgiveness and welcome me back!?

So how 'bout I start you off with a little review of life?

The last few months went a little like this...

Summer came and not only did I get busy at work and start having mild "I am a wedding planning failure" heart attacks, but then we started spending every waking minute at a cattle show and I loved it. Then the State Fair came and if you know ANYTHING about me, you know how much I love the MN State Fair. Honestly, it's 12 days of heavenly bliss and 2011 was no different. In fact, I still owe you a blog post about those amazingly delicious mashed potatoes on a stick. Really, I am craving some this very instant.

Then I sent my dear little brother off to college and got to experience the "empty nesting" phenomen with my parents. A positive of the experience? I think I am prepared for what it will be like for Mark and I fourty years from now. Eventually we got over it though and Mama May and I dived in head first to all things wedding. I had two bridal showers, a family fish fry and a five-year class reunion (yes, FIVE already!) all to fit into one weekend. It was overwhelming and fantastic.

Fast forward to the next weekend and I finally bought a car! Allelulia! Amen! Praise the Lord! They even paid me money (a pathetic amount, but it was something) for my old car. So, I am a proud new owner of a navy blue 2010 Nissan Altima. It's not quite what I was thinking of getting, but it's really practical and it might be a good time in my life to be practical. Maybe that Lincoln can be my next car!?

The next week I got to drive that new car to the hospital to visit my baby nephew, Blake Aaron Stark. We all love him a lot. I can't actually confirm that with his big sister yet, but she did stop calling him "that baby" so I think they are progressing.

Then October came and we became obsessed with sale cattle. Honestly, I know more about Purfeerst's cattle than my family's cattle. But with the Harvest Roundup Sale coming up this weekend, and seven more calves to sell off the farm, we have to be pretty serious I guess.

And to continue the blur of October, I made a quick trip to Fargo last weekend to relive my glory days and celebrate the wedding with besties! Basically my take away from that trip was that I have fantastic girlfriends and my body could still physically handle college. And that's a relief to know.

And that brings me to today where I mastered all things wedding. But given that the countdown number is getting scarily small, I better start mastering this thing soon!

Weekly Wedding Update: The Wedding Registry

I am stressed out over something that shouldn't stress anyone out. Go figure.

What is it?

I can't decide what FiestaWare colors to register for. (Lame, I know.)

But in my defense, why would anyone give anyone all these options!?

And this isn't even all of them!

I have debated and debated and the end results is that I just can't decide. And we all know Mark hates making decisions, so he is currently no help.


So, any savvy decorators out there have any suggestions? Should I do Turquoise & Scarlett? Or Paprika & Marigold? Or maybe throw in some Shamrock?

I am currently open to every option, so leave me a comment and help me out. And please, don't look at my registry...it currently screams "this girl doesn't know what she is doing when it comes to FiestaWare." Hopefully, I can somehow fix that soon?

Weekly Wedding Update: A Real Big List

The list is growing instead of shrinking I think.

Here is the thing. I love my fiance with all of my heart, but when it comes to planning a wedding some days he drives me impossibly nuts. Now, I try not to get too mad because I know we have different personalities, but still, I just want this darn list to shrink not grow. But unlike me, he doesn't smile every time he checks something off our list. He doesn't finish one list to make another list just to accomplish more. You see, for Mark one thing a day is a lot and he never can quite decide on what he wants to do (He is a "P"). For me, one thing a day is failure (I am a "J").

So the list making continues...

Here is the dauntingly big list that leaves me tossing and turning at night. Feel free to take any jobs off my hands.

1. Design, print and send invitations.
2. Decide on "fun facts" for napkins.
3. Finalize wedding music, determine a processional song and get complete list to singer & pianist.
4. Figure out table linens & napkins.
5. Design programs.
6. Design cards for tables.
7. Write a short blurb about each attendant for program.
8. Confirm with readers, dessert bar attendees & guest book person.
9. Decide on what we are doing for a guest book.
10. Meet with our couple from our parish.
11. Order wine.
12. Order alchohol.
13. Finalize meal for reception.
14. Finalize meal for rehearsal dinner.
15. Decide on what do do for bachelorette party.
16. Find purple heels.
17. Find lace TOMS.
18. Find a hairdresser.
19. Get a MAC makeover & purchase makeup.
20. Order groomsmen gifts.
21. Order/make bridesmaid gifts.
22. Get MOB, MOG & so on gifts.
23. Double check on registry items.
24. Buy or make a veil.
25. Lose 5 lbs.
26. Order Mrs. & Mr. signs
27. Get shrug in case it is cold.
28. Order wedding handbag on September 3.
29. Get wedding garter.

Now that you read it are you freaking out too? 

But seriously, if you have any ideas on any of those items above, I WOULD LOVE SUGGESTIONS. All of your comments have been so helpful so far, especially the wedding music tips, I loved them!

And am I forgetting something? (Except breathing, relaxing & spending time with Mark, family & friends?) Thanks so much for being a support system for me!

This Music Illiterate Girl Needs Help

It's time for another weekly wedding update that hasn't been weekly at all.

I have two monsters on my to-do list right now -- wedding music and invitations.

They are stressing me out, haunting my dreams and killing everyone of my lunch hours. Every wedding planner says that they both should be done by now, but go figure, this procrastinator left them for last.

Now admittedly, the wedding music should have been expected. Remember me...the music illiterate girl who always sings the wrong words, never knows who is the singer and doesn't even attempt to name the tune?!? Yeah...I stink at picking out wedding songs too. Now luckily I have a great singer who is trying so hard to help me out and a best friend who is a little bit more on top of the music world then me, but still...I need your help.

I am on the prowl for some tasteful wedding ceremony music that is maybe a little country or a little classic, but still will pass Catholic Church standards.  And I am looking for a bit nontraditional fathers/daughter dance and some fun supper music to play on the grand piano. And of course, somehow it all has to feel just right for that Mark & I, so that means...a bit quirky, pretty classic and simple.

Can you believe it was ever this cold out!?

Part 4: The Country Girl Wedding Registry

Just call me P-Dub.

Well, don't call me that yet; maybe after I get her cookbook, you can.

Since I haven't had much of a call for cooking yet in my life (thanks Momma May for feeding me every night), I haven't had a burning desire for a cookbook.

But trust me, come the day after the wedding, my future husband is going to be happy I have one.

So, when it comes to cookbooks, I am going to be picky and request one from the queen of country living herself, The Pioneer Woman.

Ree Drummond is an icon in the blogging farm wife world...well let's be honest, to the world in general. Her simple & sarcastic blog grew into a book tour, children's book, talk shows, romantic novel, potential movie and I even heard a rumor of a cooking show. She is pretty much a superstar.

Hopefully, if I get this and the Thermomix, I can whip up some Chicken Fried Steak just as good as hers. Heck, I even promise that if I get them both, I will invite all of you over for supper...twice.

Can you tell I am pretty confident the Thermomix is a far-off dream? :)

Weekly Wedding Update: Real Or Fake?

Remember last week, when I hated wedding planning?

Well, I have done a 180. Thanks to a trip to Micheal's and the rediscovery of Etsy.

Who knew that it's super easy to find "vintage chic" decorations? I literally feel on top of the wedding planning world. I want to get married tomorrow and then the next weekend and the next because I think it's going to be so gorgeous that it could be on repeat again and again.

Anyway, more about that another day. (However, if you don't know about Etsy...don't wait, check it out today.)

Today, I have a serious question for all of you. Should I do real or fake flowers?

My mom and Mark's mom say real. I say fake.



Here's my logic:

1. I want really expensive real flowers that supposedly are pretty fragile. If they're fake, they all of sudden become durable.
2. I would have something at the end of the night. With real flowers, I throw them away...$200 down the drain in some way. With fake, I could have them forever. 
3. I know exactly what they look like. Florists make me nervous. They have this vision in their head, but it's almost impossible to show that to me...until 11 a.m. on my wedding day and if I hate them, I hate them.
4. Plus, how can you not love that bouquet? It's perfect in every way.

So, please voice your opinion. What do you think? Can I get away with it? Or am I crazy? Are you an Etsy shopper too and have some suggestions for me? I would love to hear from you!

And by the way, I am sorry I have not been replying back to comments. My Blogger won't let me comment anymore!? Does anyone know how to fix this? But truly, I love every comment I get it...it makes my day!

Weekly Wedding Update

Someone once told me that wedding plan was going to be much fun. And I replied, doubtful.

Wedding planning is not for me. Thank goodness I have my mom and sister. Cathy made me wait for months to announce that I could be her maid of honor...and I was planning on her long before I even got a ring. Why? Well Cathy waited so long to ask because she knew I would be a terrible assistant and I so intently chose her because I knew she would be an excellent helper.

Anyway, now that I completed that long and windy rant, to the point. A Classy Southern Wife once had a Wedding Wednesday...and I think I am going to copy her in attempt to get better at this wedding planning thing. But mine will be a Weekly Wedding Update (I am not good at posting on specific days)!

I have approximately 28 weeks (I couldn't waste my time actually counting) to whittle this extremely list down to nothing and probably add so much more it seems impossible and then whittle it down again. Until...it's completely gone and I get to start a list of post-wedding to do lists.

Have I ever told you I really enjoy to-do-lists? Crossing things off are always more fun that actually doing them. So drumroll please...the list.

• Get a florist.
• Decide on flowers.
• Get a bakery.
• Decide on what kind of desserts.
• Pick out wedding music.
• Finalize wedding ceremony.
• Get a bus to transport wedding party.
• Find locations for pictures.
• Decide if I am doing Save The Dates and order them.
• Call the Cannon Winery about rehearsal dinners.
• Ask my personal attendants.
• Order a veil.
• Find Avery May a flower girl dress.
• Finish our wedding website.
• Decide on food for wedding.
• Finalize alcohol, drinks, ect.
• Order wine from Mark Nordstrom.
• Decide on & order invitations.
• Get all my addresses together.
• Pick out music for ceremony.
• Find purple shoes.
• Pick out attendants gifts.
• Make a decision on guest book/photos.
• Book hotel room for wedding night.
• Finish wedding registry at Macy's & Target.
• Schedule and go to wedding retreat.
• Meet with Father Stan to finalize details.
• Decide reception decor.
• Find hairstylist.
• Decide on wedding hair.
• Get dress fitted.

AHHHHH! It's so long it makes me feel like I have nothing done, but I swear I do!

Nonetheless, I clearly have some work to do. This week it starts with a florist, save-the-dates and a cake; slowly but surely I will get this done.

They Are Finally Here!

Last Friday was like Christmas in my world! Why? We got our engagement pictures from Miss Hanna Voxland and the best part of all, they were fantastic!

I will give you a peak at our favorites, she sent over 200 photos, so we had a lot to choose from. 

 

But to be completely honest, the one I love the most is this one. I guess it really shows how much we love each other! :)

 

Like I said, we had so many to choose from and these aren't close to half of them! So how 'bout you help us out...which one is your favorite? I need to pick one for my Save the Date and one for the announcements and then the rest are just to enjoy!

Part 3: A Country Girl's Wedding Registry

First of all, I am sorry. I am a terrible weekly updater, but I promise when I do make a post to my dream registry, it's going to be a good one and this week is absolutely no exception.

I ran across The Stone Junkie on Facebook during the holidays and I tried to make a purchase that day, but much to my dismay, it was too late notice for Christmas shopping. However, ever since then, I have made a point to check out their page at least once a week and I always find something I love.  The quality in these pieces look amazing and the creativity and design are second to none.

I have been lusting over the frames and crosses for months and I just need to bite the bullet and buy something, but I think it's going to be for a friend before me. I need a gorgeous house to hang something this fabulous in and that just isn't happening quite yet!

Regardless, someday I could totally see this cross being a fabulous decoration in my future red-accented kitchen.

 And this picture frame? Well, I think I have a few pictures that could work in one.

Don't be surprised if someone gets a package with a return address from The Stone Junkie some day soon, I can't resist it much longer and since I know I would absolutely love this present, I am sure one of my lucky friends will as well! Part 2: A Country Girl's Wedding Registry

I failed miserably at my wedding registry post last week, but don't worry, you won't be disappointed this week.

My second item on my dream wedding registry should be a staple in every woman's kitchen and I don't plan to survive (or cook) without this thing, I first just have to figure out how to buy it.

Let me first explain, there is a bit of history with this week's gift and it goes all the way across the ocean.  When I was in France, I had a host mom who was a great cook (read this blog).  She could make just about anything you could wish for and it was always always amazing...and the best part of all, it took her barely any work.  Her secret?  The Thermomix TM 31.

 

The first time I set eyes on this thing, I was dumbfounded.  Now understand, there was quite a language barrier the first few weeks and when my host mom pointed at this little machine every time I asked her how she made supper, I thought she was crazy! :)  It took me a few weeks, but I quickly learned how impressive this thing really was.  It cooks, chops, dices, blends, bakes, steams, weighs, whips, blends, emulsifies, kneads and then best of all...it basically cleans itself when you're done.

The Thermomix TM 31 is a "complete kitchen" and literally was used more then her stove, oven and microwave combined.  It was amazing and I need it.

The glitch comes at the "I need" part.  Not only is the Thermomix a little pricey ($1,500), but it is almost impossible to find.  Foodies across the United States are raving about it and everyone wants one, but you can't just go online and buy it.  You need to purchase it from an independent representative and there aren't many of those in North America.  In fact, after doing some research, it appears like the only one may be in Florida.

Regardless of a few challenges, I promise this super kitchen is worth the cost and the struggle to get it.  I want one so bad that if I was a little kid I would lay on the aisle at the store and scream and kick until I got it.  But, I am not a little kid anymore, so instead, I am just going to save my pennies and splurge one day.  And, this is one splurge Mark can't complain about because I promise it is going to benefit him in the end. 

Hopefully, I shared with you a little secret that enticed you to look a little further.  Check out this blog, this blog, and this website for more information.  If for some reason, you want to run to France and pick me up a Thermomix, please do!  It honestly would be my favorite gift for life and I you would have a permanent invitation to dinner at my house!  Until then, I will keep dreaming. :)

A date has made this marriage thing official and I am pretty darn excited to get the rest of my life started as Mrs. Purfeerst.  ahhhhhh....that sounds weird huh?

Just a random side note, I am going from a perfectly pronounceable last name to a guaranteed screw-up every time...that will be fun.

In light of the upcoming nuptials, I decided to do a little weekly blog entry called "A Country Girl's Wedding Registry."  Throughout the posts, I guarentee you there will be some ridiculous expensive gifts and some perfectly logical ones and I promise they won't often be found at Target.

However, we can all dream big and maybe it will give all of you some ideas for your own selves.  It's okay to splurge now and again! :)

So, drum roll please.... :)

The first item on the dream registry is a good one.

My friend crystal.cattle has featured Farmsigns.com on her blog a few times and as soon as I looked into it, I fell in love.

 I can just see a sign like this hanging outside of our house.  Of course, ours would need to have a black cow on it and read "Pufeerst Farms" "since 1866" on it and preferably be a bit more green, but those are just details!

The point of the matter is that this would be an amazing gift! :)

A Walk Down Cows, Corn & Country Girls' Memory Lane

In little over 10 months, I will be married. :)

It makes me smile even typing it.  I am excited to do more wedding planning and I am even more excited to get a start on forever; there are so many possibilities.:)

As you can probably tell, I am pretty optimistic right now, but just for giggles, I want to take you back to a time when I wasn't so positive about the vast unknown ahead me...and none to certain about the ring on my left hand.

It seems forever ago, but that's because it was.  So just for you folks, I take you back the second blog ever--and maybe my favorite blog yet-- The Last Girl Standing.

We are getting married! 

And we have a date!
